NEENAH, Wis — February 24th marked the largest crash in the state’s history. One person was killed in that crash, 30 year old Andrew Schefelker of Oshkosh. Andrew was a science teacher in the Iola-Scandinavia school district.
For the first time, Andrews parents speak out about his death.

“He's in a perfect place,” says Andrews mother, Diane Schefelker. “And we know as Christians, that someday we will join him there in heaven with God. And that's what keeps us going on a day-to-day basis," she adds.

The exact cause of his death is still unknown but somewhere in the more than 100 vehicles that crashed on I-41 in Neenah, Andew life was taken away from the loving family who adopted him.

" [We are] So blessed to have him. We brought him home when he was 14 days old. He was just the joy of our life, until Nathan came along four years later. So we were just very blessed to have him as part of our life," his mother Diane says.

The Schefelker's say they may never know exactly what happened in the crash that cold February day but they’ll never forget how much they cherished him.

"We miss him every day. Part of our heart is gone forever. there's going to be that emptiness in our lives forever for our family. but we can't be sad in some ways, because we know he's happy."
