TITLETOWN (NBC 26) — Lambeau Field is all set to welcome fans for Sunday night’s home-opener against the Bears.
If you’re worried about construction making it difficult to reach the stadium this season, you’re in the clear.
“Lambeau Field has some construction going on, but we've added some more signage, updated some directionals, and with cars and pedestrians making their way in, it’s going to be a more coordinated, more efficient effort,” said Aaron Popkey, Director of Public Affairs for the Packers.
Expect slow game day traffic but no major construction. WisDOT will pull away traffic cones for the weekend.
For Larry Kurtner, a Packers fan from Ohio, game-day traffic won't be much of an issue. He made the drive from Ohio well before the eventful weekend began.
“I always come up on the Tuesday before the Sunday game,” said Kurtner.
A tradition he’s held for many years.
“I’ve been coming up here since I was 20 and I’m now 77,” said Kurtner.
He plans to kick off this weekend with a bang.
“I’m going to the green and gold gala. There’s going to be 41 alumni. I’ll get some autographs and pictures.”
Also going on opening weekend is a free concert by rock band Train. The concert starts at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17. Train will take the stage outside Lambeau Field in the stadium’s northwest side parking lot.
As Packers fans prepare for their return to Lambeau, Popkey says to have your ticket ready and saved on your phone.
Lambeau has been paperless since last season. According to Popkey, the changes to parking and going paper-free for tickets should make entry easier.
“I’m excited to see the more efficient operations and get the season started,” said Popkey.
