Oshkosh, Wis. (NBC 26) -- The Wisconsin Herd are bringing back head coach Chase Buford for a season season.
The Herd, the NBA G-League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, announced Tuesday it has exercised the second-year option on Buford's contract.
Buford led the Herd to a 33-10 record, the best in the G-League, before the season was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 33 wins this season matches the combined total of wins the Herd had in each of the prior two seasons.
“Chase has done a tremendous job in his first season at the helm,” Milwaukee Bucks Vice President of Basketball Operations and Wisconsin Herd General Manager Dave Dean said in a team statement. “As an organization, we’re thrilled to have Chase return for a second season, and we look forward to his leadership and continued development as we build off the current campaign.”
Buford, who played college basketball at Kansas University and is the son of San Antonio Spurs executive R.C. Buford, was named the G-League coach of the month for January after leading the Herd to an 8-2 record during that month. He is the only coach in team history to earn that honor.
