GRAND CHUTE, Wis. (NBC 26) — In their first game since Labor Day of 2019, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers beat the Beloit Snappers 2-1 to open their 2021 season.
Milwaukee Brewers top prospect Garrett Mitchell went 1-3 in his professional debut, scoring one of the T-Rats two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Starting pitcher Victor Castañeda gave up a first inning home run, but settled in after that. He struck out eight batters and walked only one on his way to his first win of the season.
It was the T-Rats first game in about 20 months after the entire 2020 minor league baseball season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic. Fans were allowed in at 25 percent capacity and all available tickets were sold out.
