A report says that the player who is receiving the most individual blame for the Green Bay Packers' stunning 29-27 loss to the Los Angeles Rams not only went against coaches' orders in returning a kickoff that he eventually fumbled. That report also says he was acting angrily on the sidelines after being previously removed from the game.
NFL.com's Mike Silver wrote that more than six Green Bay Packers players and coaches witnessed running back, wide receiver and kick returner Ty Montgomery throw "a tantrum" and "becoming noticeably enraged on the sidelines" after coaches took him out of the game during Green Bay's final offensive series.
Silver reports that in the view of at least one player, Montgomery then followed-up the incident by choosing to go against coaches' wishes by then advancing the football instead of staying in the end zone to down the ball on the ensuing kickoff after the Rams took the 29-27 lead following a Greg Zuerlein field goal with 2:05 left in the game.
Montgomery fumbled the kickoff. The Rams recovered, and the Packers never got another chance at the football.
"They took him out (the previous drive) for a play and he slammed his helmet and threw a fit," one Packers player told Silver.
"Then (before the kickoff) they told him to take a knee, and he ran it out anyway. You know what that was? That was him saying, 'I'm gonna do me.' It's a f----- joke...I mean, what the f--- are you doing? We've got Aaron Rodgers, the best I've ever seen, and you're gonna take that risk? I mean, it's '12'! All you gotta do is give him the ball, and you know what's gonna happen."
Rodgers never saw the ball in the final 5:30 of the game.
