Aaron Rodgers staying with Packers, disputes report of deal

GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — It's official: MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers has confirmed he will be staying with the Green Bay Packers next year.

But the reported details about a contract are false, Rodgers tweeted.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport first broke the news that Rodgers and the Packers agreed to terms for a four-year, $200 million deal. That would make Rodgers the highest-paid player in NFL history, Rapoport reported then, citing unnamed sources.

Rodgers denied this Tuesday afternoon, writing that "reports about me signing a contract are inaccurate, as are the supposed terms of the contract I 'signed.'"

The MVP did not release confirmed details about his deal with the team.

Rodgers missed his usual Tuesday appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. That show's host was also one of the first to break the news of Rodgers' impending deal but pointed out then that the details of the deal Rapoport reported were not correct.

Rapoport also reported - apparently falsely - Rodgers gets a "whopping" $153 million guaranteed and his cap number goes down. "A monstrous commitment by GB for years to come," according to Rapoport.

Rodgers just wrapped his 17th season with the Green Bay Packers, winning NFL MVP for a historic fourth time.

The California native owns the Packers franchise record for passing touchdowns (449), and has thrown just 93 interceptions across his 14 seasons as a starter.

Rodgers' sole Super Bowl win came in the 2010 season against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Also on Tuesday, the Associated Press reports San Francisco's Jimmy Garoppolo is likely to be shipped after taking the 49ers to two of the past three NFC championship games. They say they're committing to second-year man Trey Lance. Seattle says it plans to keep Russell Wilson. Still, the Seahawks will have another offseason of speculation about their biggest star.
