Packers WR Devin Funchess opts out of NFL season

Funchess, who signed a one-year contract with the Packers in March, has decided not to play amid coronavirus concerns.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (NBC 26) -- Packers WR Devin Funchess has decided to opt out of the NFL season because of coronavirus concerns.

Funchess becomes the first Packers player to opt out, joining a wave of NFL players choosing to do so.

Funchess said he is choosing to opt out because of his family. In an Instagram post he said some of his closest family members "have experienced the life-threatening impact of COVID-19 first and and for their own safety, I have decided to opt out of the upcoming NFL season."
