GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- The Green Bay Packers have put an indefinite hold on hosting fans for home games at Lambeau Field.

The Packers announced on their website Tuesday that the hold has been put in place due to the increase of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in the Green Bay area and across Wisconsin. The Packers called the increase "concerning."

The organization says Lambeau Field will not host fans for Nov. 1 and will not be able to welcome fans until COVID-19 infections significantly decrease.

"We are very concerned with the rate of infection in our area," Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy said in the statement. "We are trending in the wrong direction in terms of hospitalization and positive cases, and based on recommendations from community healthcare and public health officials, hosting fans at the stadium for games is not advisable at this time."

The Packers say they will consult with health officials for possibly hosting fans later in the season. If the team is able to host fans, season ticket holders who have opted in for the opportunity to purchase tickets will receive instructions about the ticket-purchasing process at a later date.
