GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- For fans looking to buy a ticket online for Sunday’s game against the Bears, be careful. The Packers say they've seen a spike in the circulation of fake tickets.
The counterfeit tickets, according to the Packers, are often advertised for sale at online marketplaces like Craigslist, where the seller asks buyers to pay for the tickets in person.
Police say to avoid being duped, you should buy tickets from reputable sources like Ticket Master, Vivid Seats, Seat Geek or Stub Hub - places that can verify that your seats will be available and, if they are not, refund you.
"Where we see people run into trouble is other online marketplaces,” said Aaron Popkey, Packers Director of Public Affairs. “Where you cannot get a verified ticket. It's someone who may just post on some online posting areas and advertise a ticket or a club seat or a suite ticket and that's where you just don't know."
Police say that if you do purchase a fake ticket online, they have a hard time retrieving your money. So, as the old saying goes, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Tickets for this weekend’s game will be sold at a premium.
