Kaukauna softball is on its way to the WIAA state tournament for the third time in program history after defeating Green Bay Preble 6-1 Wednesday in a sectional final game.

The Galloping Ghosts took the early lead with three runs in the first inning and didn't look back, handing Preble - the presumptive best team in Northeast Wisconsin - just its second loss of the season.

Kaukauna is one of four area teams to qualify for state, joining Marinette, Peshtigo and Mishicot.

The state tournament begins next Monday, June 28 and will be held primarily at UW-Green Bay's King Park. Some of the Division 1 quarterfinals on Monday will be played at Bay Port High School.
