WAUSAU (NBC 26) -- A former employee at a Wausau cemetery is in custody following a shooting that killed one person and injured two others Thursday morning.
According to Wausau Police, authorities first responded to a fire at around 8:14 a.m. on Fullmer Street in Schofield. Then, at around 8:30 a.m., officers responded to a shooting at the Pine Grove Cemetery. Authorities said one person died at the scene of the shooting and two people were taken to the hospital. Police say the fire and the shooting are connected.
Police said they heard the suspect was fleeing to the east. They set up a perimeter and took one person into custody. Police say the suspect is a male Schofield resident and former employee of the cemetery.
The victims either worked at the cemetery or are related to employees at the cemetery. A handgun was recovered at the scene.
Search warrants are expected to be executed today. The suspect is due in court tomorrow.
