According to multiple reports, the Packers have interviewed their first two candidates for their head coaching vacancy: Former Colts head coach Chuck Pagano and former Colts and Lions head coach Jim Caldwell.
ProFootballTalk first reported Caldwell had been interviewed, and the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported Pagano had also been interviewed.
Neither man is currently working in the NFL, which is why the Packers have interviewed them already. Team president/CEO Mark Murphy and GM Brian Gutekunst cannot interview anyone currently working in the NFL until at least the regular season is over. College coaches are permitted to talk with the Packers, but many won't do so until their bowl games are played.
At the helm in Indianapolis, Pagano was 53-43 in the regular season and 3-3 in the postseason. After missing the playoffs three years in a row, Pagano was fired after the 2017 season.
Before Pagano, Caldwell was the head coach in Indianapolis, taking over after Tony Dungy retired. The Beloit, Wis., native also coached the Lions from 2014-2017. In Detroit, Caldwell went 36-28 and was fired after last season's 9-7 campaign. Through stints in Indianapolis, Baltimore and Detroit, Caldwell has experience working with veteran quarterbacks: Peyton Manning, Joe Flacco and Matt Stafford.
