NORTHEAST WISCONSIN (NBC 26) -- If you're considering selling your home, now might be the time.
Shanice Forgette wasn't sure what to expect when her family put their Oshkosh home on the market. Just a day later, she had her answer.
“Our house sold in a day," she said. “We were very surprised - $100 over asking even. It wasn’t even the first offer, we had several offers just on day one.”
Experts in real estate say this is one example of a thriving seller's market. Agent Stacey Hennessey said record low interest rates have made houses affordable and driven up competition.
“We’re looking at (sales) five, ten, fifteen, twenty thousand over asking," Hennessey said.
That's great news for sellers, but it can be frustrating for buyers.
“I get goosebumps just talking about it because all of these buyers have a need and there’s so many offers out there that we just have to keep going and keep fighting and go to the next one," Hennessey said. "Delivering the bad news is never the fun part, but I promise you when we get the right one, it was the right one for them.”
Hennessey recommends buyers meet with their lenders to see if and how they can make an offer more attractive. That might mean going above asking price or paying for some repairs. For those looking to sell, the advice is more simple..
“Go away for the weekend because you’re going to be kicked out of your house," Hennessey said.
