GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- Main Street Green Bay will look a little bit different after this pandemic due to the hard work of a few bar and restaurant owners.
The owners and developers at the Duel Sports Bar and Grill and the Crown and Common have used this time to their advantage. Owners of both places were inside their bars last week to continue construction.
“We were locked in," Duel Sports Bar and Grill co-owner Mike Cain said. "We can’t stop. We’re too invested to stop. Luckily we don’t have a lot of expenses here, operating costs.”
Cain said he first planned on opening in April. That likely wasn't going to happen even without the coronavirus pandemic, but it's now given them more time to get ready to open up when the time is right.
The owner of the Crown and Common said the pandemic has given them the extra time they needed to upgrade parts of the bar.
“It’s just one of those things you have to deal with, and you have to stay optimistic and try to see the silver lining in everything," Kaveh Barakhshan said. “We’re just going to play it day by day and see.”
Both places are optimistic that they'll help make Main Street a destination once their doors are opened up.
“When summer comes and people start coming back outside, we’re going to do real well," Barakhshan said. "Main Street is coming back for sure.”
