ALLOUEZ (NBC26) - What better way to spend a Saturday, then to spend it with your family and your favorite furry four legged best friends.

Saturday was the first ever Barktoberfest in Allouez. The village recently changed an ordinance to allow dogs in all of their parks. Despite the windy weather, families and dogs of all sizes joined in for a run or a glass of beer. The event was able to raise more than $1,000 for local rescue efforts and improvements for area dog parks.

Organizers say this event is just a great way to spend a day outdoors and enjoy some time with your puppies.

“Just a fun family event get people out and about bring four legged friends something different dogs can come to,” Matthew Hahn said, the recreation coordinator in Allouez. “People come out listen to live music and enjoy themselves."

If you missed the event, Hahn says you shouldn't worry as they'll continue the tradition.
