FISH CREEK (NBC26) — Julie’s Park Cafe re-opened for the season just a few weeks ago.
“It’s been a busy spring," said Sande Solomon.
Sande and Shane Solomon have owned Julie's Park Cafe and Motel since 2010, and they bought Countryside Cottages in 2018. With advanced motel reservations going strong, the Solomons expect this summer to be busier than last year and 2019.
“People crave being around other people," said Shane Solomon. "I think what we’re seeing is that even with the barriers that were up, masks on, they still want that human interaction.“
Preparations are going pretty smoothly, they said, but like many other Door County businesses, they’re having a tough time hiring.
“Filling those extra one or two positions has definitely been tricky," said Sande. "We’re still getting a few of our J-1 Visa students that are coming, but not as many as we hoped for.“
They’re lucky to have a strong core staff that has been around for years, said Shane.
“You can get fantastic food everywhere," he said. "You can get great rooms everywhere. One thing that you won’t touch is our customer service. Our staff really cares about what they do in the customers that come in. We’ve always taken the stance that we want to be the reason people want to come back to door county.“
Julie’s Cafe is open every day except Thursday from 6:59 a.m. to 3:01 p.m.
