GREEN BAY (NBC26) — Brittany Berkovitz, the new owner of Hat-cetera, loves hats.
“I believe Hat-cetera is the only hat store of its kind in all of Wisconsin," she said. “I am obsessed with them. I love them, so I’m glad to be sharing that passion with other people.”
The shop first opened on the other end of Broadway in 2008. The original owner retired in 2019 and sold the business to Berkovitz, but the lease was up, and she didn’t want to settle on just any location.
“I always knew that I wanted to be back on Broadway," she said. "I’m pretty stubborn, so I just waited and waited and waited, and then with the opportunity presented itself, I just pounced on it.“
Although Berkovitz did popups in De Pere for months, she was worried people would forget about Hat-cetera.
“When you’re gone for over a year, sometimes you lose the interest of people," she said.
But since opening the new store two weeks ago, she’s seen nothing but support. This community understands the value of finding the perfect hat in person, said Berkovitz.
“You can come, chill out, look through some of the magazines, have a conversation with me," she said. "I’m bored some of the time, so I don’t mind chatting. I like to get to know people. Make it an experience.“
You might think you’re not a hat person. To that, Berkovitz says think again.
“Just put it on," she said. "Maybe give it a little tilt, style it right, and it’ll be just fine.”
Hat-cetera is open Wednesday through friday from noon until 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
