At 3:10 p.m. Thursday, Fond du Lac Fire Rescue responded to 12th Street at the Fond du Lac River for a reported person in the water.
Rescue crews quickly deployed cold water rescue suits and made entry into the river securing the victim and attaching a rope around her to aid in her extrication from the water and up the snow covered riverbank.
The woman was brought to a waiting ambulance for medical treatment which included exposure to the cold.
"The victim was yelling for help and alert neighbors kept the victim stable while the other one called 911," said Fire Chief Peter O’Leary. “This outcome could have been much different if not for quick thinking bystanders who knew what to do.”
