A woman was seriously injured after getting hit in the head by a flying piece of metal while riding in a car in Appleton.
The debris came through the windshield of the vehicle she was riding in.
It happened around 4:30 p.m. Saturday to the east of the intersection of E. Calumet and S. Schaefer Streets.
Officers found a large piece of metal in the roadway.
It has been determined the piece of heavy metal was part of a leaf spring. A leaf spring is usually part of a heavy-duty or commercial vehicle.
There is no evidence to show the incident was intentional.
Due to the nature of the incident and the life threatening injuries sustained by the victim, the Wisconsin State Patrol assisted in the investigation.
The victim remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
