Three tourism groups voiced their support Thursday of a proposal to build a new expo center in Brown County.

The plan, by Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach, calls for an extra half-percent sales tax for six years to help fund the new facility that would replace the aging Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena.

It also calls for using the existing room tax to pay for construction of the $93 million expo hall.

Leaders with the Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Area Lodging Association, and the Green Bay chapter of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association said they voted to approve the plan.

"It opens doors to markets, honestly, that we haven't been able to pursue, and we haven't pursued, because we didn't have the facility to actually attract that business to our community," said Brad Toll with the Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Convention and Visitors Bureau said a new expo hall would bring in a projected $130 million in revenue over 10 years.
