WISCONSIN (NBC 26) — A Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper has died after battling coronavirus, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) said in a statement Tuesday.

According to WisDOT, 42-year-old Master Trooper Dan Stainbrook passed away Monday due to complications from COVID-19.

Stainbrook was a 20-year veteran of the Wisconsin State Patrol assigned to the North Central Region, working primarily in Waushara County. WisDOT said Stainbrook served as an instructor for sworn personnel across the division.

Gov. Tony Evers offered condolences Wednesday in a public statement.

“The state of Wisconsin lost a true public servant with the passing of Dan Stainbrook. With two decades of dedicated service to his community and the state of Wisconsin, his loss is felt deeply by all those who knew and worked with him,” said Gov. Evers. “Dan was a part of our team, and Kathy and I extend our deepest condolences to Dan’s family and loved ones as well as his colleagues in the Wisconsin State Patrol and Department of Transportation during this incredibly challenging time.”

Gov. Evers said the forthcoming executive order will lower the U.S. and Wisconsin flags to honor Master Trooper Stainbrook when funeral arrangements have been made.
