PEWAUKEE, Wis. — A 31-year-old man died after being stabbed on a Greyhound Bus that had stopped in Pewaukee on Nov. 18, authorities say.

The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office has identified 21-year-old Drew Bennett of Panama City, Florida as the defendant involved in the incident. He has been charged with one count of 1st degree intentional homicide - use of a dangerous weapon.

The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office said authorities arrived at the parking lot next to the Point Burger Bar on Westwood Drive around 6:08 p.m. on Nov. `18, where they found the victim unconscious, not breathing and suffering from a wound to the neck. Authorities established he had been a passenger on the bus.

An initial investigation found that it appears the victim was attacked on the bus by another man. The victim suffered a knife wound to his upper torso, the sheriff's office said.

After the man was stabbed, other passengers provided medical treatment to him until first responders arrived. Life-saving measures continued but the man was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.

According to a criminal complaint, passengers identified Bennett as possibly involved to deputies on scene. Also identified was Bennett's grandmother.

His grandmother told detectives she and Bennett were traveling from Florida to Wisconsin to stay with Bennett's mother. According to the complaint, the grandmother said she was sleeping and woke up and saw the victim bleeding. It was determined the victim was sitting directly behind Bennett at the time of the incident.

The grandmother also told police that Bennett allegedly likes and collects knives. According to the complaint, police found a sharpening stone for a knife inside Bennett's backpack.

Another passenger allegedly told police he heard a commotion and saw the victim covered in blood. He allegedly said the victim fell into him and said "I have been stabbed", according to the complaint.

During a search of the bus, a knife with a wooden handle covered in blood was found near the rear of the bus, the complaint states.

The complaint goes on to say that video from inside the bus allegedly makes it impossible to see the actual moment where the stabbing took place due to the dark lighting. However, video shows at the last stop before the stabbing took place, Bennett allegedly exits the bus momentarily and a knife in a sheath can be seen in his hands, according to the complaint.

During an interview with detectives, Bennett allegedly admitted to stabbing the victim.

Bennett allegedly told detectives he heard on the intercom that a child and woman needed to be saved and believed the victim had a gun, according to the criminal complaint.

The complaint states that Bennett allegedly said a voice was telling him to "handle it" and that a woman speaking on the intercom was speaking "so lightly". Bennett allegedly said the voices told him to "use the knife, save the woman and child, we got you, we got you, we got you."

Bennett allegedly said he was "being a hero" and confronted the victim and told him to get off the bus. Bennett and the victim then allegedly got off the bus and that is when Bennett stabbed him because he thought that "they were going to kill the woman and the child".

The bus involved was traveling from Milwaukee to Madison along I-94 and contained 14 passenger and one driver, according to the criminal complaint.
