MADISON (NBC 26) -- Wisconsin is seeing significant community spread of coronavirus, according to state health officials.

In a virtual news conference Thursday, Interim DPH Administrator and State Health Officer Stephanie Smiley noted a rise in the percentage of young people who reported attending a gathering.

Through contact tracing, Smiley said the percentage of 20 to 29 year olds who reported attending a gathering, party or meeting with people outside their household was 30% in June - compared to 7% in April and 12% in May.

Smiley also said barely 1% of people who reported attending a gathering attended a protest or demonstration.

Wisconsin has now recorded 39,627 confirmed cases of COVID-19, an increase of 900 from Wednesday's numbers.

Four more deaths related to coronavirus were reported Thursday. A total of 831 people have died from COVID-19 in Wisconsin. More data can be found here.
