The death of a six-year-old girl in Forest County has been classified as suspicious, and is being treated as a reckless and negligent homicide, according to the Forest County District Attorney.
Investigators are now waiting for toxicology reports, autopsy findings, and the return of subpoenaed documents, which could take several months, District Attorney Chuck Simono said.
They have not determined an official cause of death, according to Simono.
The girl, identified by her mother as Amber Perry, was found dead in her Crandon apartment complex Tuesday morning.
No arrests have been made yet, and Simono does not know if any criminal charges will be filed, he said during a press conference Friday. Charges will depend on the cause of the death.
"There's nothing more tragic than an unexpected death," said Simono. "Except when it involves a child. The younger the child, the more horrifying it is. We want to make sure we get this right."
