School leaders in Shawano are considering a plan to start classes later in the day for the district's middle and high school students. For parents like Gilbert Boivine, who has a 7th grader, it's a good idea. ""He has to catch a bus at 6:30 in the morning to be at school by 7:39 so that half an hour would probably give him more sleep."
Administrators say they've studied the issue and found a later start time has health benefits and could help children fighting obesity. "And besides helping children academically and with obesity, the research showed morning traffic." Administrator Gary Cumberland explained.
Parents are gathering to discuss the idea tonight in Shawano.
