A Germantown driving instructor tested at more than three times the legal limit Monday after picking up a Germantown High School student for a driving lesson.
A report from Germantown Police said Corey Maloney couldn't remember he had a student in the car with him when he backed into a fence at the high school, hitting the school's principal.
The report said Maloney works for Just Drive Driving School, which the Germantown School District says is not affiliated with the school. The website for the driving school said driving students are picked up at the school.
In a statement Thursday, Germantown Superintendent Jeff Holmes writes "the District felt that immediate action was necessary."
"As a result, the District has advised the private driver education service that it is prohibited from bringing its personnel or vehicles onto District premises until further notice. We recognize that this may temporarily inconvenience students and parents who use this service, and regret that this suspension of the company's access privileges was necessary. Nevertheless, the District cannot ignore clear safety hazards for our staff and students."
Germantown Police tells TODAY'S TMJ4 this is Maloney’s first operating while intoxicated violation, which under state law is not a crime. He received a citation for which he will appear in municipal court next month.
