OSHKOSH (NBC26) -- "The whole thing about being on stage, is you gotta have confidence," said theater instructor Jim Hart.

Theater students at Valley Christian High School are becoming more confident as they rehearse for their musical, "Godspell."

"Godspell the musical, the unque thing about it, is it is a story of Christ but in the way we are portraying it is what if he was here in November of 2019," said Hart. "Part of the curriculum, they're taught how to audition, choosing a monologue choosing a song, sheet music, memorizing monologue memorizing a song."

Hart said this is a class where students are learning the fundamentals of theater. He said having theater as an actual graded class allows students to enjoy other extracurricular activities.

Like sophomore Isaiah Humiston, who played Jesus in the musical.

"I play baseball, basketball, after school it's homework time, maybe before look at script again," he says.

Junior Rachel Nehring said she's grateful to have made friends and feel like she's a part of a team in theater.

"I've been singing for as long as I can remember. People in the hall will either tell me good job or shut up."

Some words of encouragement maybe, but students are putting their best food forward as they hit the stage.
