SUAMICO, Wis. — The gift of giving, and the lesson of helping others in our community, that's what third graders at Suamico Elementary school are learning.
Students from Mrs. White's class, and others are learning about the importance of giving, raising $350 through a popcorn fundraiser, and receiving a $500 privation donation, teacher April White asked her students what they wanted to do with the money. "They decided to make blankets," said White, but the lesson goes beyond the classroom.
"The joy of what it feels like to help someone else//// they will think back and remember that joy in helping and continue to pay it forward," said White.
The blankets are complex, just ask student Gabbie Yager, an expert at tying the blankets.
"This top, then you take this bottom, and you just take it and tie it, twice," said Yager, "once the corner is done, you keep going and going until you get to the corners, you do the same thing, you tie them."
Jaxon Ripkoski said he's learning a lesson in compassion, "these will go to the animal shelter, the nursing home, so they don't get cold," said Ripkoski.
Third grader Delilah Arndt said she's excited, "I made one and I'm working on my second... "

Students are dedicating their time, giving back, it's the feeling they'll cherish, "even as a third grader, they can be an active citizen in their community, and they can make a difference," said White.
