Multiple departments were called to the old Marinette Knitting Mills site at Pierce Avenue and Daggett Street for reports of a fire just before 11:00 a.m. Thursday. MABAS was activated forcing seven fire departments to respond with more than 50 firefighters working to put out the fire.
The Marinette Fire Department said the scene was cleared around 7:30 Thursday afternoon. No injuries were reported, but the building is a total loss. The building had a value of $50,000, while the contents in the building were about $25,000.
Authorities say the fire was caused by an employee working with a blowtorch to cut piping in the basement.
