Today's a little less tense for Luxemburg fire chief Lew DuChateau.
"You don't know how serious it is anytime you roll any type of truck over, especially a fire truck you think of the worst," said DuChateau.
He was about a mile in front of the tanker which holds 1,800 gallons of water when he got the call it had flipped and rolled several times.
"If you get into a situation where you start to lose control of the truck, the water is going to help push you over," said DuChateau.
The Kewaunee County Sheriff's Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol are working together, but they don't believe the 36-year-old firefighter is to blame for the accident.
"People need to understand the nature of the business is risky, not just once you get to the scene but even responding to the scene. These people are putting themselves at risk just getting to the scene," said Kewaunee County Sheriff, Matt Joski.
The fire trucks were on their way to a smoker fire at a home when the truck lost control. The accident took several hours to clean up.
"First of all to drain the liquids out to try to limit the amount of weight that they're dealing with, but then to get that vehicle back onto the road so that they can haul it away," explained Joski.
On Thursday the intersection of Jahnke Road and County Highway AB is mostly cleaned up, but along side the road there's still some debris.
"We were there for quite a long time I would say probably two or three hours," said DuChateau.
DuChateau says firefighters are trained every year on the trucks, but following this accident they'll consider doing more training.
The firefighter involved in the crash is expected to return to the Luxemburg Fire Department next week.
