Child injured in accidental shooting, Door Co. authorities say

DOOR COUNTY (NBC 26) — A 9-year-old boy was injured in an accidental shooting Sunday morning, the Door County Sheriff's Office said.

The Sheriff's Office said it was notified of the shooting around 7 a.m. in the Township of Nasewaupee.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the initial investigation indicated a 45-year-old man was attempting to clear his rifle. The firearm discharged, striking a 9-year-old boy in the leg, who was laying on a couch in the next room. The 9-year-old was flown to Green Bay for his injuries.

Emergency responders from Door County Emergency Services, Southern Door First Responders, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, along with the Door County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

The Sheriff's Office said the incident remains under investigation by the Door County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
