GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport (GRB) is getting a new look.
Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach donned a hard hat Tuesday, climbed into a scissors lift, and picked up a paint roller to perform a ceremonial “first paint stroke” on the exterior of the airport. It was all part of an event to draw attention to an exterior refresh and improvement project at GRB.
“It’s time to brighten things up and give our airport a more contemporary look,” stated Streckenbach. “So, we wanted to have a little fun with it while sharing the news.”
The airport's management says the building's exterior canopy will be remodeled and repainted, with LED lighting and security features added.
Additionally, the airport's entrance and exit plazas, as well as traveler walkways, will be updated and painted. All parking lots will be resurfaced, and new decorative security fencing added.
The airport's old colors on the building's exterior will also be painted over. A contemporary gray paint color will be paired with blue accents, replacing the outdated aqua color and accents.
The $8.2 million project, funded through a combination of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Improvement (AIP) grant funds and Wisconsin Bureau of Aeronautics (WiBOA) State-aid grants, is expected to be completed in four phases over the next year. Immel Construction of Green Bay is the general contractor.
