Women in alcohol industry plan brew to honor part of Green Bay's past

Posted

Women in the alcohol industry held an event in Green Bay Tuesday, and planned to make a beer inspired by a female brewery owner from Green Bay's past.

The beer, a white IPA dubbed "Octavia," is "...in honor of the owner of a brewery here in Green Bay pre-prohibition, in the 1890s," said Whitney Froelich, a brewer at Titletown Brewing Company in Green Bay.

Octavia Van Dycke was the owner of O. Van Dycke Brewing, according to Froelich.

The event was held in connection with the non-profit group Pink Boots Society, which works to help women in the alcohol industry, through education.

"It's really fun to make these connections with women who love beer," Froelich said.

The "Octavia" brew is set to go on sale March 8, in connection with a tapping at Titletown Brewing Company.

"I just thought it was super cool that a woman owned a brewery in the 1800s in Green Bay," Froelich said.
