Woman is rescued from Lake Michigan near Algoma

KEWAUNEE COUNTY (NBC 26) — A 50-year-old woman remains in stable condition after being found in Lake Michigan on Friday morning.

According to the Kewaunee County Sheriff Office, officials say at about 10:10 a.m. they received a call about a woman who was suffering from hypothermia.

The woman was found by area fishermen in the waters of Lake Michigan near Algoma approximately a quarter mile from shore.

Those individuals transported the victim to the Algoma Harbor where she was attended to by Algoma Rescue before being transported to Door County Medical Hospital.

Units from the Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department and the City of Algoma Police Department responded along with assistance from the Algoma City Department of Public Works to check the shoreline and adjacent waters for any vessels or individuals involved. It is not believed that there were any additional victims in this incident.

Investigation into the circumstances remains under investigation.

The Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department was also assisted by resources of the United States Coast Guard, The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and will be assisted in the investigation by the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation.
