GREEN BAY (WGBA) -- The Wednesday downtown farmer's market made its return to Green Bay this week. For months, people have been discussing the plan for handling the event while COVID-19 continues to spread.

"We are requiring vendors to wear masks and sanitize surfaces," said Chelsea Kocken, the market manager. "We are also sending people in groups."

COVID-19 wasn't the only thing people had on their minds. The market comes back in the middle of national unrest over the death of George Floyd. Protests were held in Green Bay the past few days and Sunday night saw some of them turn violent.

"We have been in communication with police," Kocken said. "We have a couple offices here, but we think it will be a fine night. Any protesters that show up are welcome here. It is there right for free speech and we respect that."

No protesters showed up at the market tonight. Organizers and vendors say they wanted the market to be about coming together to celebrate a new season.

"This was months in the planning with everything going on," Kocken said. "There is still a lot to do, but it s a celebration given all the hurdles we had to jump through to get tot his point."
