GREEN BAY (NBC26) — The Wisconsin Humane Society is taking in nearly 75 animals from Texas, helping dogs and cats find forever homes in a new state.

“Being able to step up when help is needed," said Shaina Allen, Wisconsin Humane Society Green Bay and Door County Marketing Coordinator. "That’s our ultimate goal.“

The cats and dogs were in Texas shelters before the storm and didn’t have owners looking for them. Taking in these pets will let those shelters focus on repairing storm damage and helping animals displaced by the storm, said Allen.

“It’s one of those secondhand thoughts almost," she said. "You’re worried about the people, the homes, the kids, where are people going to stay? But a lot of people consider their pets family too. And it’s a big problem with things like that.

A good half of the cats have already been adopted, said Allen.

“Because of the community support, we’re able to do things like this," she said. "At the end of the day, no matter what organization it is, no matter what state you’re in, everybody wants these animals to be reunited with their families or in new loving homes.”

All throughout the month of March, the Wisconsin Humane Society is matching donations dollar for dollar. You can donate here.
