Wisconsin DNR issues air quality advisory for weekend

During the first year of COVID-19, when fewer people were out and about, environmental health markers - like air and water quality - improved across the globe. Scientists and researchers are studying ways those improvements can be long-lasting, without the harsh, negative economic impacts inflicted by the pandemic.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has issued an air quality advisory for this weekend.

The DNR says the Air Quality Index is expected to reach the Orange level, meaning it could be unhealthy for sensitive groups.

Sensitive groups include children, elderly people, people with respiratory and cardiac problems, and anyone engaged in strenuous outdoor activities for a prolonged period of time. The Wisconsin DNR says these groups should avoid extended outdoor exposure.

The advisory was issued for the following counties: Brown, Calumet, Door, Fond du Lac, Kenosha, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, Marinette, Milwaukee, Oconto, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Walworth, Washington, and Waukesha.

The air quality advisory took effect Saturday morning and is expected to last until late Sunday night. More information can be found here.
