High winds played a role as firefighters worked to put out an overnight house fire in Fond du Lac, according to a news release from Fond du Lac Fire Rescue.

Crews got the call to the scene along West Bank Street about 2:15 a.m. Sunday.

Everyone was able to get out of the house, but one person was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation.

The fire spread to two neighboring homes, again with the wind playing a role.

No one can stay in any of the three homes now.

The Red Cross is helping the people who lived in the homes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries, but were able to return to work.
