STURGEON BAY (NBC 26) — After the months of shopping that led up to Christmas, the shopping continues for some on the day after Christmas.
Todd Trimberger owns Bliss in Downtown Sturgeon Bay.
He said he's grateful this holiday season for all the business he's seen.
"We did have a small line out both doors when we first opened this morning,” Trimberger said.
According to Mastercard SpendingPulse, which tracks all kinds of payments including cash and debit transactions, holiday sales rose 8.5% from a year earlier.
That's the fastest pace of sales growth in 17 years.
"We've been really busy, we feel very fortunate, I think in general my neighbors have all had a good holiday season and really pleased with that,” Trimberger said.
With the ups and downs throughout the pandemic, many local business owners remain optimistic and are hopeful to end the shopping season on an even stronger note.
For now, it’s customers like Joey Graef from Green Bay who drove nearly an hour to snag some discounts.
"We started at seven, Taylor Creek opened up at eight, we've been going since and now we're here in Sturgeon Bay,” Graef said.
"It’s been a tradition for us to be open the day after Christmas and I think it would've been a little challenging. You can come down and recharge your Christmas spirit because there's still a lot of holiday magic out here,” Trimberger said.
All holiday-related decorations were 40 percent off and will go down to 50 percent off in the new year.
Business owner, Trimberger said they like to treat customers as if they're coming over for cocktails.
Their focus is more about the experience rather than the items they sell.
