FOX CITIES (NBC 26) — The Community First Fox Cities Marathon starts in four days and volunteers for the big event are still needed.
This year marks the 31st anniversary of the marathon and will run from Sept. 16 through 18.
Volunteers can sign up for as many shifts as they desire as long as the shifts do not overlap.
Some experience might be required for certain roles, but there are numerous opportunities available that require no experience.
Open volunteer spots include arrival and inventory, clean up, course marshal, mixing the Gatorade, Handing out water and Gatorade and station set up. Check out what these roles entail by clicking here.
There are some positions that have age limits attached, all children under 13 years old must be accompanied by an adult volunteer, volunteering as a family is encouraged.
All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and community service hours can be applied if needed.
Net proceeds from the event support community service projects and local non-profit organizations in the Fox Cities. Over its 30-year history, the Fox Cities Marathon has given back more than $1 million thanks in part to the marathon volunteers.
Representatives from the marathon expressed their gratitude for their volunteers.
"We're so appreciative of all the time and energy put into this event by our volunteers. It's the dedication from the people in our community that makes us known as one of the most amazingly supportive events for runners and walkers in the entire nation."
