ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (NBC 26) — Ashwaubomay Park in Ashwaubenon is getting a fresher look.
Roughly 25 volunteers helped clean up and remove invasive plant species along the park's shoreline Saturday morning.
Village forester Tim Bauknecht says they are mainly focused on removing honeysuckle and buckthorn.
Bauknecht says these plants take over other vegetation in the park.
"Five years ago, we didn't even know that there was a waterway there, because it was choked out with these invasive species," Bauknecht said. "So, we're trying to open up the views and vistas not only along the creek, but along the Fox River as well."
Bauknecht says volunteers have been helping remove these invasive plants for eight years.
