GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — A drive through downtown Green Bay this week confirms that coronavirus has taken away some of our sense of normalcy.

Traffic is low and the doors at restaurants are closed.

"People are really stressed, have a lot of anxiety," Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich said.

Our interview with Genrich on Thursday wasn't normal either. We talked on Face Time about what people can do for each other during this time.

"Green Bay is a community that's really known as one that steps up when others are in need," he said. "We're just encouraging folks to act that way during this uncertain time."

Mayor Genrich asked residents to help out if they can. The Brown County United Way and the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation have set up emergency response and relief funds. People can also lend their time and a helping hand.

"If people are willing to step up and lend a hand there are plenty of organizations, plenty of ways to get involved," Volunteer Center of Brown County executive director Eric Sponholtz said.

Many non-profits and organizations, like local food pantries, still have a great need. Sponholtz said they also have plans in place to help volunteers be at a safe, social distance.

"They still have projects, they still have things that people can do that set them up to not be in such close quarters," he said.

So, as we all await a return to normalcy, leaders want you to know there's a chance to make a difference.
