GREEN BAY, Wis. — Applications are now available online for the 18th annual Farmers’ Market on Broadway in downtown Green Bay. You can find them here.
There are three categories of applications:
- Vendors: businesses that sell produce, processed food, food prepared on site, art or handmade crafts, or are located within the Broadway district
- Non-profit
- Corporate: a for-profit company that does not fall within the above vendor categories
Allie Thut, Director of Special Events for On Broadway, Inc., said that discussions with city health officials are underway to determine COVID-19 protocols and other related logistics, such as location. Thut said that OBI officially submitted their application for the permit last week with the goal to hold the farmers' market on Broadway like it has been in years past. Because of these moving parts, the applications were opened nearly two months later than usual.
"We just didn't have any answers, so we just didn't really want to put those out without having the conversation with the city yet or the health department," Thut said.
Mayor Eric Genrich says he's looking forward to bringing back outdoor events safely for locals to enjoy.
"I've had the chance to talk with some of our local business improvement districts, and my conversations with them have really leaned in to this idea of doing whatever we can to support outdoor, safe activities. And so I would certainly put our farmers markets in to that category," Mayor Genrich said. "I still think these things are going to look a little bit different than folks are probably used to in years past, but I think we're capable of being creative."
As of now, Thut believes that masks will be required at the market as well as social distancing between vendors in terms of applicable mitigation strategies.
The market's 19 week season will run from May 26 to September 29. The market is open every Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. until Labor Day, then 3-7 p.m. afterwards.
