UW Health: Firework safety tips ahead of the holiday weekend

GREEN BAY, WIS. (NBC 26) — The fourth of July weekend can be a fun, but dangerous weekend.

Every year more than 3,000 children under the age of 15 are sent to the emergency room due to firework related injuries.

NBC 26 Today was joined by Dr. Nicholas Kuehnel, a pediatric emergency physician with UW Health Kids in Madison to talk about firework safety.

Dr. Kuehnel talked about some of the most common injuries that happen when dealing with fireworks.

He also offered some tips on firework safety as well as some safe alternatives for kids to use during the holiday weekend.

Dr. Kuehnel also spoke about what to do if an injury does occur while using fireworks.
