GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — We all know how convenient rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft are. Now imagine that same idea, except instead of ordering a driver to pick you up, you’re ordering a lawnmower to come cut your grass.

You don’t have to imagine it any more.

“If someone was going to summon a stranger to pick them up at some point, they would do the same with lawn care," said Gene Caballero.

Caballero launched Greenpal in Nashville in 2012. Today, the app is in 250 U.S. markets, now including Green Bay.

“We knew there was going to be a need for it at some point," he said. "We knew that the consumer mindset was going to change and everybody wants everything on demand, and they don’t want to wait for anything.“

The app is very simple to use; homeowners just enter their address and when they need service on the app, all the local, pre-screened vendors get alerted and can “bid” on that property, then the homeowner reviews the vendors and makes their choice.

“In the middle of the summer, in the middle of a snowstorm, you call 10 landscaping professionals and you’re probably going to get 10 voicemails," said Caballero.

Greenpal solves that problem, he said.

“That really feels good to be able to help somebody make their life a little bit easier.“

So far, there are already dozens of lawnmowers on Greenpal for Green Bay. The app is free, you can find it in the app store on your smart phone or online at greenpal.com.
