TWO RIVERS, Wis. (NBC26) — A student died after suffering a medical emergency at Two Rivers High School, according to police chief Brian Kohlmeier.

The Two Rivers Fire Department's paramedics responded to the incident shortly before 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

In a letter to parents, the school district said a 10th-grade student had a serious medical emergency in the pool. The student was transported to the hospital where he passed away, the school district said.

School district administrators confirm there will be no classes at Two Rivers High School on Wednesday.

Kohlmeier extends his deepest sympathies to the family on behalf of the police department.

After conferring with the family, the Two Rivers Public Schools administrator tells NBC 26 the district "will honor their wishes and make no comments at this time."

In the letter to parents, the school district said it would offer counseling to any students affected by the incident.
