MANITOWOC COUNTY (NBC 26) — A man and woman were rescued after they fell through the ice at Pigeon Lake in southern Manitowoc County.

Shortly before noon on Monday, first responders got a report of a woman who had fallen through the ice. It was later found out that she had tried to catch her dogs that ran onto the icue and fell through. A man then took a kayak out and also ended up in the water. Both people, a 31-year-old woman from Chicago and 32-year-old man from New Holsetin, were able to get out of the water. The dogs were also able to get to shore.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital.

The Manitowoc County Sheriff wants to remind people to check local conditions before going out onto any frozen waters. The county has had mild temperatures this winter.
