OMRO (NBC26) -- — Multiple law enforcement agencies are investigating what police describe as a suspicious fire that took the lives of several victims Christmas morning.

According to a press release from the Omro Police Department, an officer on patrol saw flames and heavy smoke near a house in the 200 block of McKinley Avenue around 4:30 a.m. Friday.

Officers attempted to make contact with the residents inside, but were hindered by heavy smoke and fire conditions. The Omro Rushford Fire Department arrived and quickly put out the fire.

The Omro Police Department said two people and a dog were found dead inside the house.

Police said the Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), State Fire Marshall have been on scene to assist with the investigation. Omro officers will remain on scene until the investigation is completed.

The investigation remains very active and ongoing, according to police.
