PREVIOUS: A Green Bay driver is facing charges after a crash killed two people Saturday, the Brown County Sheriff's Office said.
In a Sunday news release, the Sheriff's Office said the double fatal crash was reported at around 10:49 p.m. on CTH R at Cooperstown Rd in the Town of New Denmark.
The Sheriff's Office believes that a 2004 Cadillac Escalade was westbound on Cooperstown Rd and failed to yield right of way at the stop sign at CTH R. A 2018 red Ford Fusion that was believed to be traveling southbound on CTH R collided with the Escalade.
The fronts of the vehicles collided with each other, according to the Sheriff's Office. The Escalade spun around and ended up on the west shoulder of CTH R facing northbound just south of Cooperstown Rd. The Fusion ended up about 30 feet into the field in the southwest corner of this intersection.
The Escalade caught fire after the crash. The Sheriff's Office said the fire was mostly burning the vehicle down to its metal frame.
Both people in the Fusion, a 42-year-old man who was the driver and a 41-year-old woman passenger, both from Whitelaw, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sheriff's Office said the passenger of the Escalade, a 31-year-old man who is not from the area, was brought to an area hospital and was then flown to Milwaukee to be treated because of the extent and severity of his injuries.
The driver of the Escalade, a 29-year-old Green Bay man, was also treated at an area hospital. He was booked into the Brown County Jail on several criminal charges. The Sheriff's Office said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
Authorities didn't release any names, citing pending notification of next of kin.
The incident is being investigated by the Brown County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.
