FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene of a crash around 1:11 a.m. Thursday morning on County Highway D, near Miranda Way in the town of Fond du Lac. A witness had reported that a car had driven off the road and hit a pole.
On scene, police found the vehicle had split in half when it hit the pole, and the occupants were thrown from the vehicle. Both the driver, a 24-year-old Fond du Lac man, and the passenger, a 28-year-old Fond du Lac man, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police determined the vehicle was traveling southbound on County Highway D at a high rate of speed when it drove off the road and hit the pole.
Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
The investigation is still underway.
